NAME: Michel Kok
Popgrafix a.k.a. Mike Kok noticed at an early age that he preferred Japanese animated series in the early 80's over all others. When those TV series disappeared, it was American comics and European comics that kept him off the streets.
As an Industrial Design student, he drew comics for comic magazine Chaos. He learned to master graphic packages such as Photoshop, Freehand and Flash, and as an illustrator for Nike he became proficient in vector illustrations.
Mike is a Jack of all trades: illustrations, comics and animations. His work has appeared on posters, magazine covers, websites, clothing, CD covers and in books, games, educational publications, magazines and diaries.
He also designed mascots, manuals, infographics, logos and packaging and his work has been on display in various museums. He worked for clients such as Airbus, Municipality of Amsterdam, Deloitte, ING, and Mars.
Currently, his days are mainly filled with making illustrations for short, informative corporate animations. It was very nice to go back to my roots for LIGER and pay tribute to Japanese sci-fi animated movies such as Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Macross and Gundam that have had such a big influence on my work.
